The Role of the Civil Engineer in the Commercial Project

Role of the Civil Engineer
Planning, developing and executing a commercial project is a job too large for any one person.  There are so many different aspects that experts from various fields need to be involved in to successfully complete the venture. One of the most important consultants for any project is a civil engineering professional. These consultants are trained to consider factors that may be affected or need to be addressed before construction can even begin. There are many different services that a civil engineer can offer.

Comprehensive Planning

The area of your project determines the types of permits you’ll need and the standards you’ll be required to follow. For instance, projects in Sonoma County may need to consider one or more of the following standards, depending on their area and project type.
  • Zoning Ordinance
  • Sonoma County General Plan
  • Grading Ordinance
  • Well & Septic Standards
  • California Coastal Commission
  • State Agencies
  • Building Codes
  • And more…

Having a civil engineering professional on your team will provide the experience of someone who understands these guidelines and knows how to complete a commercial project while still following the designated plan.

Agency Permitting

Another aspect of project planning that can be confusing is the necessary permits and processes for obtaining them. There are often more required than you would expect, making it vital to have someone on hand who knows how to efficiently navigate the legal side of construction.

Site Design

In addition to obtaining necessary permits and determining which adjustments will need to be made to satisfy each plan for the specified area, experts in civil engineering are also able to contribute to site design. Their past experiences allow them to offer options for compliance and creatively come up with a solution that will satisfy the reviewing committee as well as government regulation.

As you prepare to undertake the task of planning and executing a commercial project, consider hiring an expert in the civil engineering field to determine legal compliance and safety. Nice explanation, It reminds me to remember things I know in Project Management, but tend to forget during my busy day! Thanks! Constraints are used to impose logic on activities that may not be realistically scheduled with logic links, Two constraints are permitted against each activity. They are titled Primary and Secondary Constraint. After the Primary has been set, a Secondary may be set only when the combination is logical and therefore a reduced list of constraints is available from the Secondary Constraint list after the Primary has been set.

This is by far the most annoying part of such projects.

Thanks for making the point that planning, developing, and executing a plan are too complex for just one person. My boss wants to build some new buildings for a project. We'll have to look into civil engineering and permitting.

I like how you mentioned that there are so many different factors that professionals from different fields need to be a part of. My uncle mentioned to me last night that they are planning to build real estate on their vacant site and asked if I have any idea what is the best option to do in choosing the best civil engineering service. Thanks to this informative article and I'll be sure to tell him that it will be much better if we consult a trusted civil engineering service as they can answer all our inquiries and will provide the proper layout for their desired real estate property.
